Queer Lisboa

Queer Lisboa is the sole Portuguese Film Festival dedicated exclusively to screening gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transexual themed films, a genre known as Queer Cinema. The event, being the oldest film festival in Lisbon, is the gateway in Portugal for this cinema genre and invites a number of personalities working in Queer Cinema to attend the event, therefore promoting theoretical knowledge on queer themes and concepts.

The film programme is organized in Competitive Sections for Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Short Film, Queer Art section and In My Shorts (Student Film Competition); so as in non-competition sections, special screenings, retrospectives on the representation of homosexuality in Film History and parallel pedagogical activities. The Festival also works on the preservation, promotion and distribution of Portuguese Cinema, of which regularly present special programmes in International Film Festivals.

In 2023, Queer Lisboa will celebrate its 27nd Anniversary presenting a programme between 22nd and 30th September, in Cinema São Jorge. Check all the movies, retrospectives, workshops, events, exhibitions and parties for this year’s edition in the festival official website.
